Alvin Terry was Born in Monroe, North Carolina and his musical career began when his family moved to Springfield, Massachusetts. A self-taught drummer, Mr. Terry’s music is rooted in Funk, R&B, Jazz and Gospel. Mr. Terry began playing in a band that included guitarist, Felix Carter,guitarist, Darryl Hubbard and basist, Avery Sharp. He later received invaluable tutelage from Dr. Horace C. Boyer,with whom he toured and recorded.At this time he also played and recorded with Professor, Archie Shepp while receiving drumming tips and concepts from Max Roach.

Later, in addition to touring with Avery Sharp, Mr. Terry performed with Ricky Ford, Marian Brown,Claude Williams, Dakota Staton, and Valerie Pomaroff. Currently, Mr. Terry is involved with recording projects as well as performances. He also employs over two hundred groups a year through his company, Flamtap Enterprises. He is a member of the music ministry at Grant AME church in Boston, Massachusetts and books the music for a variety of clients.

Mr. Terry plays percussion for numerous occasions as well as several annual events. These include The Three Kings Production in Boston, Mass. at The Berklee Performance Center featuring trumpet player, John Faddis and All That Jazz, a yearly concert on Martha’s Vineyard which features vocalists Armstead Christian and Shawn Montiero. He can frequently be found playing percussion for vocalist Ron Murphy at The Danforth Museum in Framingham, Mass. Mr. Terry’s sextet provided the entertainment for a grand fundraiser in Schenectady, N.Y. this year, raising money for The Hamilton Hill Art Center. In June of 2003, they also provided the music for the unveiling of The Sentinel, a bronze sculpture commissioned by The Forest Hills Cemetery in B oston, Mass. The Alvin Terry group was featured on Eric In The Evening during this past year and one of Mr. Terry’s original works, Faith In One, recieved special recognition. He also journeyed to New York City to work at The Blue Note with his friend and fellow jazz percussionist, bass player, Avery Sharp.

Although Mr. Terry has recorded with numerous other artists, his own debut CD is scheduled for release in April of this year.In the meantime, if you wish to sample his strong, vibrant and original sound, he can be heard on the following CD’s.
